Chain TENSIONER, Removing And Installing: Removing

There are required preliminary procedures if the camshaft timing chain should be removed from the camshafts when the engine is installed. Refer to CHAIN TENSIONER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the affected upper timing chain cover. Refer to UPPER TIMING CHAIN COVERS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Cylinder Bank 1 Chain Tensioner (Right):

-- Using the Wrench - 21mm: T40263  and Adapter: T40314  , turn the crankshaft -arrow- until the vibration damper is at "TDC".

• The marks -1 and 2- on the camshaft adjusters must align with the corresponding locating tabs -arrows- on the camshaft housing. If necessary turn the crankshaft an additional turn.

-- Push back the pistons of the chain tensioner -3- using a bolt driver -1- all the way -arrow- and lock the chain tensioner using the Locking Pins: T03006  .

TIP:

The piston is lubricated with oil and can only be pushed back slowly by applying constant pressure.

-- Remove the bolts -2 and 4- and the chain tensioner.

-- Using the Wrench - 21mm: T40263  and Adapter: T40314  , turn the crankshaft -arrow- until the vibration damper is at "BDC".

• The marks -1- on the camshaft adjusters must align with the corresponding locating tabs -arrows- 120° offset on the camshaft housing. If necessary turn the crankshaft an additional turn.

-- Turn back the guide rail -3- -arrow- and pistons from the chain tensioner -1- using the Locking Pins: T03006  .
