Camshaft Timing Chain, Removing From Camshafts, Cylinder Bank 1 (Right): Installing
- The crankshaft is locked using the Locking Pin: T10492 or Crankshaft Locking Pin: T40069 at "TDC" point.
- The Camshaft Positioning Tool: T40331/1 is tightened on the camshaft housing to 9 Nm.
- Replace the friction disk (diamond discs) after removal.
Risk of destroying the engine with the friction disc not being installed.
- Check the installation of the friction disc (diamond disc) between the camshaft adjuster and the camshaft stub.
- The marks -1 and 2- on the camshaft adjusters must align with the corresponding locating tabs -arrows- on the camshaft housing.
-- Bring the camshaft adjuster with the camshaft timing chain positioned in the previously described installation position at the same time pay attention to the applied markings when removing.
-- Lubricate the control valves -1 and 2- on the threads and bolt head support and install all the way but do not tighten.
- Both camshaft adjusters must be able to be turned on the camshaft.
-- Remove the Locking Pins: T03006 .
-- Have a second technician tension the Electronic Torque Wrench 3-60Nm: VAS6583 with insertion adapter Hazet 6423C with Torque Wrench Insert - Ring Tool Attachment AF41: VAS261001 and Counterholder: T90001 on the exhaust camshaft adjuster to 26 Nm counter-clockwise -arrow- and hold.
- Protection torque without using the insertion adapter Hazet 6423C is 30 Nm.
-- Tighten the control valves with Socket E24: T90000 as follows while the camshaft adjuster is still being held under tension:
- Control valve -2- on intake camshaft 30 Nm.
- Control valve -1- on exhaust camshaft 30 Nm.
Valve Timing, Checking
-- Remove the Camshaft Positioning Tool : T40331/1 .
-- Remove the Locking Pin: T10492 or Crankshaft Locking Pin: T40069 .
Risk of destroying the engine by adjusting the valve timing.
- Never turn the crankshaft and camshafts if the chain drive is not completely installed.
-- Using the Wrench - 21mm: T40263 and Adapter: T40314 , turn the crankshaft two turns -arrow- until the vibration damper is back at "TDC".
- The marks -1 and 2- on the camshaft adjusters must align with the corresponding locating tabs -arrows- on the camshaft housing.
Procedures, where the engine is NOT removed:
-- Insert the Locking Pin: T10492 on the groove -1- in the vibration damper all the way in the hole -arrow- in the belt pulley side sealing flange. If necessary push the crankshaft slightly back and forth.
Procedure, if the Engine is Removed Due to Preliminary Work.
-- Install the Crankshaft Locking Pin: T40069 in the hole and tighten to 20 Nm. If necessary push the crankshaft slightly back and forth.
Continuation:
- The help of a second technician is necessary for the following step.
-- Have a second technician tension the Electronic Torque Wrench 3-60Nm: VAS6583 with insertion adapter Hazet 6423C or Stahlwille 7370/10 with Torque Wrench Insert - Ring Tool Attachment AF41: VAS261001 and Counterholder: T90001 on the exhaust camshaft adjuster to 26 Nm counter-clockwise -arrow- and hold.
- Protection torque without using the insertion adapter Hazet 6423C or Stahlwille 7370/10 is 30 Nm.
- It must be easy to insert the Camshaft Lock: T40331/1
.
- Do not use a hammer to install the camshaft positioning tool.
-- Insert the prepared Camshaft Positioning Tool: T40331/1 all the way in the camshafts. If necessary slightly turn the crankshaft.
- The Camshaft Positioning Tool: T40331/6 engages as shown in the flattened section -1- on the intake camshaft.
- The Camshaft Positioning Tool: T40331/7 engages as shown in the flattened position -2- on the exhaust camshaft.
If the Camshaft Positioning Tool: T40331/1 CANNOT be inserted:
-- Remove the Locking Pin: T10492 or Crankshaft Locking Pin: T40069 .
-- Insert the prepared Camshaft Positioning Tool: T40331/1 all the way in the camshafts as previously described. For this turn the crankshaft slightly.
-- Loosen the control valves -1 and 2- a half a turn using the Socket E24: T90000 .
-- Repeat the adjustment. Refer to Installing .
If the Camshaft Positioning Tool : T40331/1 can be inserted:
-- Remove the Locking Pin: T10492 or Crankshaft Locking Pin: T40069 .
-- Remove the Camshaft Positioning Tool: T40331/1 .
-- Position the Counterholder: T90001 and Counterholder: T90002 on the exhaust camshaft adjuster.
-- Support the counterholder on the intake camshaft control valve -2-. If necessary turn the crankshaft slightly clockwise (only clockwise).
-- Turn the control valve -1- a 35° additional turn using the Socket E24: T90000 .
-- Position the Counterholder: T90001 and Counterholder: T90002 on the intake camshaft adjuster.
-- Support the counterholder on the exhaust camshaft control valve -1-. If necessary turn the crankshaft slightly clockwise (only clockwise).
-- Turn the control valve -2- an additional 35° turn using the Socket E24: T90000 .
-- Remove the Counterholder: T90001 and Counterholder: T90002 .
-- Install the right lower air duct pipe. Refer to AIR DUCT PIPE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the cylinder bank 1 upper timing chain cover. Refer to UPPER TIMING CHAIN COVERS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Additional procedures. Refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING FROM CAMSHAFTS .
