-- Remove the boot. Refer to BOOT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Position the front wheels as follows:
- For the left tie rod, turn the steering to the left until it stops
- For the right tie rod, turn the steering to the right until it stops
-- Unscrew the tie rod with the Torque Wrench Insert - Open Jaw: V. A. G 1923 -item 2-. Counterhold the steering gear steering rack with an open end wrench -1- while doing this.
CAUTION:
There is a risk of destroying the steering gear if the boot is faulty.
Moisture and dirt could enter.
- Check the splines on the steering rack for a visible lubricating film.
- If the film of grease is missing, replace the steering gear.
