Steering Intermediate Shaft, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Bring wheels in the straight position.

-- Move the driver seat all the way to the rear until it stops.

-- Position the steering wheel as far back and down as possible. Use the entire adjustment range of the steering column adjustment for this.

-- Switch off the ignition.

-- Use the steering wheel locking device -2- to lock the steering wheel -1- when the wheels are in straight-ahead position.

-- Remove the center noise insulation. Refer to NOISE INSULATION .

-- Remove the bolt -1-.

-- Remove the universal joint -2- of the steering intermediate shaft from the steering gear -3- (example illustration).

-- Remove the driver side footwell vent. Refer to AIR DUCT .

-- Remove the bolt -arrow- and remove the steering intermediate shaft universal joint -1- from the steering column -2-.

LHD vehicles:

-- Remove the A-pillar lower left trim panel. Refer to VEHICLE INTERIOR TRIM PANELS .

-- Remove the accelerator pedal module. Refer to ACCELERATOR MECHANISM .

RHD vehicle:

-- Disconnect the brake pedal from the brake booster and pivot toward the rear. Refer to BRAKE PEDAL, DISCONNECTING FROM BRAKE BOOSTER .

-- Push the carpet slightly toward the rear.

LHD vehicles:

-- Remove the bolt -3-.

Continuation for All Vehicles: 

-- Remove the nuts -4-. Remove the steering intermediate shaft -2- with the sealing lip -1- (shown on a LHD vehicle).
