Wheel Bearing Housing, Removing And Installing: Removing
-- Loosen the connection between the drive axle and wheel hub. Refer to DRIVE AXLE THREADED CONNECTION, LOOSENING AND TIGHTENING .
-- Remove the front speed sensor. Refer to RIGHT AND LEFT FRONT ABS WHEEL SPEED SENSOR -G45- / -G47-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the brake caliper. Refer to OVERVIEW - FRONT BRAKES .
-- To protect the threads, remove the nut -arrow- from the tie rod end joint pin until it is flush with the joint pin threads.
- To prevent damage to the ball joint puller, both pry arms on the pull must be parallel to each other when the most force is applied.
Abruptly loosening the tie rod end when removing increases the risk of injury.
It is possible that parts of the body may become bruised.
- Secure the tool with the engine and gearbox jack placed underneath.
-- Remove the tie rod end with the : VAS251805 from the wheel bearing housing.
-- Remove the nut by counterholding at the ball joint with a 6 mm inner hex socket if necessary.
-- To protect the threads, remove the nut -arrow- on the left and right from the guide link joint pin just until it is flush with the joint pin threads.
Abruptly loosening the ball joint when removing increases the risk of injury.
It is possible that parts of the body may become bruised.
- Secure the tool with the engine and gearbox jack placed underneath.
-- Remove the guide link joint pin from the conical seat using the : VAS251809 with : VAS251809/1 . Do not damage the CV boot while doing this.
-- Remove the nut by counterholding at the ball joint with a TX40 socket if necessary.
-- Free up the guide link on the wheel bearing housing.
-- Disconnect the threaded connection -2-.
-- Remove the joint pins for the upper control arm -3- from the wheel bearing housing.
-- Remove the screw -2-.
Risk of damaging the wheel bearing housing by deforming it.
- Do not widen the slots in the wheel bearing housing.
-- Insert the : 3424 into the slit on the wheel bearing housing -3- and turn 90°.
There is a risk of accident due to the high weight of the wheel bearing housing.
- A second technician is required for the following work steps.
-- Pull the wheel bearing housing downward from the ball joint and remove it.
-- Tie up the drive axle.
- The drive axle must not hang down, otherwise the inner joint will be damaged by over bending.
