Shock Absorber Fork, Removing And Installing: Removing

Before starting work:

-- Versions with coil springs: determine the curb weight position. Refer to VEHICLES WITH COIL SPRINGS, CHECKING THE CURB WEIGHT POSITION FOR AXLE ALIGNMENT .

-- Versions with air suspension: determine the standard vehicle height. Refer to STANDARD VEHICLE HEIGHT FOR AXLE ALIGNMENT ON VEHICLES WITH AIR SUSPENSION, CHECKING .

-- Remove the front wheel. Refer to WHEELS AND TIRES .

-- Remove the coupling rod. Refer to COUPLING ROD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Disconnect the connectors -1 and 2- for the shock absorber fork.

-- Insert the Spreader Tool: 3424  into the slot in the shock absorber fork -arrow-.

CAUTION:

There is a risk of damaging the ball joint if force is used.

- Never press the joints in the control arm past the maximum articulation.

-- Remove the shock absorber fork downward from the shock absorber tube by carefully pressing the wheel bearing housing downward and pressing the shock absorber tube to the side slightly.
