Oil Pan Upper Section, Removing And Installing: Installing

• Replace the bolts that were tightened with an additional turn after removing them.
• Replace the O-rings after removing them.
• Version 1 oil pan upper section: remove the oil pan lower section -item  27 after removal.

-- Remove any sealant residue on the cylinder block using a flat blade scraper.

-- Remove the remaining sealant on the oil pan upper section and on the lower timing chain cover -1-, or example with a rotating plastic brush.

• Check if the timing chain cover is deformed. Then mount the oil pan upper section without any sealant and check the gap between the cover and the oil pan upper section. If deformation is determined and the cover cannot be aligned, replace the cover after installing the oil pan upper section.

-- Clean any oil or grease off the sealing surfaces.

-- Check for dirt in the oil channels in the oil pan upper section and in the cylinder block.

• Be sure to check the expiration date of the sealant.

-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: approximately 2 mm).

Version 1 Oil Pan Upper Section:

-- Apply sealant to the clean sealing surfaces on the oil pan upper section -arrow- as shown.

• Sealant bead thickness: 2 to 3 mm.

Version 2 Oil Pan Upper Section:

-- Apply sealant to the clean sealing surfaces on the oil pan upper section -arrows- as shown.

• Sealant bead thickness: 2 to 3 mm.

-- Apply sealant between the cylinder block and the lower timing chain cover -arrows-.

• On the transmission side, the oil pan upper section and the crankcase must be flush.
• The oil pan upper section must be installed within five minutes after the application of sealant.

-- Position the oil pan upper section immediately and tighten the bolts.

-- Install the bolts -arrows-.Tightening specifications -item 17 .

Further installation is performed in reverse order of removal, while noting the following:

-- Install the oil pump. Refer to OIL PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING . On Version 1 oil pan upper section, install the oil baffle -item  27

-- Install the sealing flange on the transmission side. Refer to SEALING FLANGE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, TRANSMISSION SIDE .
