Oil Pan Lower Section, Removing And Installing: Installing

• Replace bolts that were tightened with an additional turn after removing them.

Vehicles with Metal Oil Pan Lower Section:

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Hand drill with plastic brush insert
• Protective Eyewear
• Sealant. Refer to the appropriate Electronic Parts Information.

-- Spray the sealing surface with sealant remover and allow it to work.

-- Remove any sealant residue on the oil pan upper section using a flat-blade scraper.

-- Remove any remaining sealant on oil pan lower section -1- using for example, a rotating plastic brush.

-- Clean any oil or grease off the sealing surfaces.

Be sure to check the expiration date of the sealant.

-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: about 3 mm).

-- Apply sealant on the clean sealing surface of the oil pan lower section as shown -arrow-.

• Sealant bead thickness: 2 to 3 mm.
• The sealant bead may not be thicker than specified, otherwise excess sealant could enter the oil pan and clog the oil intake pipe screen.
• The oil pan must be installed within five minutes of being applied with sealant.
• After installing the cover, allow the sealant to harden for approximately 30 minutes. Only afterward may the engine oil be replenished.

-- Immediately attach the oil pan lower section and tighten the bolts. Refer to Figure.

Vehicles with Plastic Oil Pan Lower Section

-- Position the oil pan lower section with new seal and tighten the bolts. Refer to Figure.

-- Fill the engine oil and check the oil level. Refer to ENGINE OIL .
