Gear Oil, Draining And Filling
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit:SMN372500
- Charging Device for AWD Clutch Coupling 2:VAS6291A
- Charging Device for AWD Clutch Coupling 2 - Adapter 2:VAS6291/2
- Not illustrated: Torque Wrench 1331 5-50Nm:VAG1331
Requirements
- Wear protective eyewear.
- The vehicle must be level.
-- Lift the vehicle with all four lifting points of the hoist at the same height.
-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .
-- If equipped, remove the right drive axle heat shield from the bevel box. Refer to DRIVESHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Place the :SMN372500 under the transmission.
-- Remove the oil drain plug -2- and drain the gear oil.
-- Install the new oil drain plug.
-- Tighten the bolt to the tightening specification. Refer to Fig 3.
-- Remove the oil filler hole plug -1-.
-- Install :VAS6291/2 -A- until it stops.
-- Lock the elbow -B- with the adapter -A-.
-- Fill the gear oil.
- When the bevel box is filled correctly, oil escapes at adapter -A-.
- If the oil still does not leak out, repeat the filling procedure.
-- After filling correctly, remove the :VAS6291/2 .
-- Install the old oil filler plug and lightly tighten it.
-- Start the engine, engage a gear and let the transmission turn for approximately two minutes.
-- Switch off the engine and remove the oil filler hole plug.
-- Check the oil level and fill again with oil up to the lower edge of the filler hole.
-- Install a new oil filler plug.
-- Tighten the bolt to the tightening specification. Refer to Fig 3.
-- Carefully remove leaking oil from the bevel box.
-- Install the heat shield above the right drive axle, if equipped. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the noise insulation. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .
