Headliner, Lowering

Procedure 

-- Pay attention to the safety precautions when working with pyrotechnic components. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHEN WORKING WITH PYROTECHNIC COMPONENTS .

-- Move the rear headrests into the lowest position.

-- Remove the A-pillar upper trim panels. Refer to A-PILLAR UPPER TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Detach the B-pillar upper trim panels (refer to B-PILLAR UPPER TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING ) and move to the side with the seat belt.

-- Q3: remove the C-pillar upper trim panel. Refer to UPPER C-PILLAR TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, Q3 .

-- Remove the D-pillar trim panels. Refer to D-PILLAR TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, Q3 .

-- Remove the sun visors. Refer to SUN VISOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the center support for the sun visor. Refer to SUN VISOR CENTER SUPPORT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the vanity mirror lamp. Refer to Driver Vanity Mirror Lamp -W20- /Front Passenger Vanity Mirror Lamp -W14-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the roof grab handle. Refer to ROOF GRAB HANDLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Free up in the headliner in the area of the inner door seals.

-- Free up the headliner -1- in the rear lid seal area -2-.

• Replace the headliner if it is bent.

-- Use the Pry Lever: 80-200  to unclip the back of the headliner at the clips in the center of the body -arrow A-.

-- Unclip the headliner from the outer clips with the hooks up to the first catch of the body -B arrows-.

-- To disengage the clamp with hooks -2-, guide the Hook Tool: T40207  between the headliner and the body; carefully push the headliner -1- slightly downward to do this.

-- Engage the Hook Tool: T40207  on the clamp and pull it toward the rear -arrow- ; this allows the clamp to slide out of the mounting point in the body.

-- Repeat the procedure on the opposite side.

-- Carefully guide the Pry Lever: 80-200  between the headliner and body.

-- Release the rear centering -arrow- in the center with the Pry Lever: 80-200  and lower the headliner.

-- Carefully lower the back of the headliner and place on the seat.

-- Equipment version: unclip the cover -1- on the side using the clip-release lever from the : VAS 6845  -arrows A, B and C-.

-- Disengage the front cover and remove toward the rear.

Versions without Sliding Sunroof: 

-- Remove the front roof module. Refer to FRONT INTERIOR LAMP/READING LAMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Lower the headliner and place it on the seats.

Versions Equipped with a Sliding Sunroof:

-- Open the sliding sunroof.

-- To avoid dirtying the headliner, clean the Removal Wedge: T40233  .

-- Push the trim removal wedge between the sunroof frame -1- and the headliner.

-- Using the trim removal wedge, loosen the headliner all the way around the sunroof frame -arrows-.

-- Unclip the headliner -3- together with the front roof module -2- from the clamp -1- using the scraper from the : VAS 6845  -arrows- and carefully lower it.

-- Disconnect the connector and free up the wiring harness.

-- Lower the headliner and place it on the seats.

Assembling 

-- Align the headliner, press in the centering pin at the rear of the headliner until it engages audibly in the body mounting point.

-- Install the center support for the sun visors. Refer to SUN VISOR CENTER SUPPORT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Stretch the inner door seal lip over.

Versions Equipped with a Sliding Sunroof: 

-- Clip the sides of the headliner into the sunroof frame first, and then into the front and rear.

Further assembly is performed in reverse order.
