Overview - Drive Axle: Notes

- Outer CV Joint
- Only replace completely
- Removing. Refer to Figure.
- Installing: Using a plastic hammer, drive onto the shaft as far as the stop
- Divide the grease evenly in the joint
- Check using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester Refer to OUTER CV JOINT, CHECKING .
- Bolt
- Replace after removing
- Clean the threads in the CV joint with a thread tap before installing.
- Bolt, Loosening and Tightening. Refer to DRIVE AXLE THREADED CONNECTION, LOOSENING AND TIGHTENING .
- Bolt : WHT.005.437
/ black = 200 Nm +180° additional turn
- Bolt : WHT.005.437. A
/ silver = 200 Nm + 90° additional turn
- Drive Axle
- Clamp
- Replace after removing
- Tensioning. Refer to Figure.
- CV Boot
- Check for tears and scuffing
- Clamp
- Replace after removing
- Tensioning. Refer to Figure.
- Plate Spring
- With inner spline
- Installation position. Refer to Figure.
- Circlip
- Replace after removing
- Insert in shaft groove
- CV Joint CV Boot
- Without vent hole
- Check for tears and scuffing
- Drive off CV joint using a drift
- Coat the sealing surface with : D 454 300 A2
before installing it on the CV joint
- Clamp
- Replace after removing
- Tensioning. Refer to Figure.
- Backing Plate
- Internal Multi-Point Bolt
- Replace after removing
- First tighten diagonally to 10 Nm, then tighten diagonally again to the tightening specification
- 40 Nm
- Cap
- Replace after removing
- Removing
- Circlip
- Replace after removing
- Removing and installing with Circlip Pliers: VW 161A
- Seal
- Replace after removing
- The adhesive surface on CV joint must not have any grease or oil on it.
- Inner CV Joint
- Only replace completely
- Divide the grease evenly in the joint
- Removing. Refer to Figure.
- Installing. Refer to Figure.
- Check using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester Refer to INNER CV JOINT, CHECKING .
- Plate Spring
- With inner spline
- Installation position. Refer to Figure.
