Brake Pads, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Release the parking brake.

-- Switch off the ignition.

-- Remove the affected rear wheel. Refer to WHEELS AND TIRES .

If the brake pads are replaced, use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester to press back the parking brake motor.

-- Drive back the parking brake motors: 

-- Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester to the vehicle data link connector when the ignition is switched off.

-- Switch the ignition on.

-- Select Diagnostic  and start.

-- Select the Test plan  tab.

-- Select Individual tests  and select the following tree structures one after the other:

-- Start the selected program and follow the instructions on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester display.

-- Disconnect the connector -2- from the Right Rear ABS Wheel Speed Sensor -G44- /Left Rear ABS Wheel Speed Sensor -G46- and free up the wire. (Shown on a FWD vehicle).

-- If equipped, disconnect and free up the connector -2- for the brake pad wear sensor by opening the dust cap -1-.

CAUTION:

There is a risk of injury because the spring is tensioned.

The spring can jump out and cause eye or skin injury.

- Hold the spring with a hand.

-- Pry the spring -1- for the brake pads with a screwdriver -A- out of the brake caliper -arrow- while doing so do not damage the surface on the brake caliper.

-- Remove the caps -arrows- from the guide pins.

-- Remove both guide pins from the brake caliper using the : T10503  and : VAS6784  .

CAUTION:

There is a risk of damaging the brake hose due to the weight of the brake caliper.

- Never let the brake caliper hang on the brake hose.

-- Hang the brake caliper -1- on the body using suitable wire -A-.

-- Remove the brake pads -2 and 3-.

CAUTION:

There is a risk of damaging the brake caliper pistons if handled incorrectly.

- Never operate the brakes when the brake caliper is removed.
