Brake Pads, Removing And Installing, Six-Piston Ceramic Brake: Installing
Install in the reverse order of removal while noting the following:
-- Check the wear specification of the brake rotors:
- Refer to CRACKS IN CERAMIC BRAKE ROTOR CONNECTION AREA
- Refer to CHAMFER
- Refer to NICKS ON CERAMIC BRAKE ROTOR
- Refer to CRACK IN COOLING CHANNEL
- Refer to CERAMIC BRAKE ROTOR, DETERMINING WEAR
- Refer to CERAMIC BRAKE ROTOR, DETERMINING WEAR USING Carbon-Ceramic Brake Wear Tester
- Always replace brake pads on the same axle at the same time.
- Use the complete repair kit when installing new brake pads.
Health risk due to toxic dust from the brake system.
Irreversible deposit of dust particles in the lungs. Breathing impairments may occur.
- Never blow out the brake system with compressed air.
- Use only mineral spirits to clean the brake caliper.
- Do not clean ceramic brake rotors with fluids.
- Check the protective caps of the brake caliper pistons for damage and install the complete repair kit, if necessary. Refer to BRAKE CALIPER PISTON, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, SIX-PISTON BRAKE .
There is a risk of contamination and paint damage from leaking brake fluid.
- Check the brake fluid level before pushing the brake caliper piston back into the brake cylinders.
-- If the brake fluid is up to the "MAX" marking on used brake pads, it must be extracted.
- Use the : VAS5234 to extract brake fluid from the brake fluid reservoir.
-- Use the : T10145 to press the brake caliper piston completely back into the brake caliper.
-- Clean the retaining pin -arrows- at the brake caliper on the brake pad contact surfaces and thinly coat them with Grease.
-- With used brake pads check the wire -3- for the brake pad wear sensor is seated correctly and for damage.
- If the brake pad wear sensor is damaged, replace the sensor.
-- Insert brake pads -1 and 2- into the brake caliper.
-- Note the installation position of the brake pad spring:
- Left side: the bracket -arrow- for the brake pad wear sensor, faces upward.
- Right side: the bracket -arrow- for the brake pad wear sensor, faces downward.
-- With used brake pads, clean the brake pad pin -1- and thinly coat with Grease.
-- Bring brake pad spring -2- into its installed location, and press down -arrows-.
-- Insert the brake pad pin and fasten with the bolt -3-.
-- Install the brake pad wear sensor. Refer to BRAKE PAD WEAR INDICATOR WIRE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, SIX-PISTON CERAMIC BRAKE .
-- Engage the balance springs -2- in the brake pad -1-.
-- Engage the balance springs on the brake pad spring -3-, by pushing with the : T40207 downward in direction of -arrow-.
-- Install the front wheel, while observing the safety precautions for vehicles with ceramic brakes. Refer to WHEELS AND TIRES .
Faulty brakes increase the risk of an accident.
- Make sure the brakes are working correctly before driving the vehicle for the first time.
-- With the vehicle stationary, firmly press the brake pedal several times so that the brake pads in the operating condition properly sit in their respective position.
-- Check brake fluid level, and fill if necessary.
