Brake Caliper Piston, Removing And Installing, Single-Piston Brake: Removing

• Brake caliper removed and separated from the hydraulic system. Refer to BRAKE CALIPER, REPLACING, STEEL BRAKES 1LA/1LB .

TIP:

Make sure that the paint coat on the brake caliper is not damaged when removing the brake caliper pistons and the protective caps.

-- Place a cloth over the brake caliper chamber to catch any spraying brake fluid. Place another cloth tightly around the compressed air gun nozzle on the brake caliper.

-- Tension the brake caliper in a vise with protective covers over the jaws.

TIP:

Place a wooden board into the recess so the brake caliper piston is not damaged.

• The bleed screws are closed.

-- Position the compressed air gun nozzle on the hole -arrow- for the brake hose and press the brake caliper piston out of the brake caliper.

TIP:

If the same protective cap should be re-installed, use the Removal Tool: T40338  instead of the Trim Removal Wedge: 3409  to remove it without damaging it.

-- Pry the protective cap out of the brake caliper.

A -  Vise Protective Jaws

-- Remove the seal using the Trim Removal Wedge: 3409  .

• When removing, make sure that the cylinder surface is not damaged.
