- Pay attention to the safety precautions when working with pyrotechnic components. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHEN WORKING ON PYROTECHNIC COMPONENTS .
- Observe the disposal regulations for pyrotechnic components. Refer to AIRBAG, BELT TENSIONER AND BATTERY CUT-OUT UNITS, STORING, TRANSPORTING AND DISPOSING (PYROTECHNIC COMPONENTS) .
-- Disconnect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
-- Remove the glove compartment. Refer to GLOVE COMPARTMENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the mount for the Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794- and let it hang on the connected wires. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM .
-- Equipped on some models: remove the front passenger side instrument panel vent. Refer to FRONT PASSENGER SIDE INSTRUMENT PANEL VENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Equipped on some models: remove the air duct to the right instrument panel vent and to the wide vent. Refer to OVERVIEW - AIR ROUTING AND AIR DISTRIBUTION IN VEHICLE INTERIOR .

- Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". For example, this can be done by briefly touching the door striker.
-- Release the connector lock -A- with a small screwdriver.
-- Disconnect the connectors -1 and 3- on the Front Passenger Airbag Release Valve Igniter -N491- and Front Passenger Airbag Igniter 1 -N131- and if equipped -2- for the Front Passenger Airbag Igniter 2 -N132-.
-- Remove the bolts -1 and 3-.
-- Remove the airbag -2- downward.

- Lay the airbag so that the collision cushion faces upward.
