Camshaft, Measuring Axial Clearance

Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Dial Indicator Holder: VW387
- Dial Gauge - 0-10mm: VAS6079
Procedure
- The camshaft housing is removed. Refer to CAMSHAFT HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the : T40331/1 .
-- Secure the : VAS6079 with the : VW387 on the camshaft housing.
-- Press the camshaft against the dial gauge by hand.
-- Set the dial gauge to "0".
-- Press camshaft off the dial gauge and read the value:
Axial clearance
- Intake camshaft: 0.014 to 0.064 mm.
- Exhaust camshaft: 0.048 to 0.155 mm.
