Overview - Camshaft Timing Chains

1. Guide Pin
   • 5 Nm +45°
   • Replace after removing.
2. Guide Rail
3. Gear
   • With the chain sprocket for the camshaft timing chain
4. Camshaft Timing Chain
   • Removing from the camshafts. Refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING FROM CAMSHAFTS .
   • Do not separate from the tensioning rail. Refer to -item  ) Tensioning Rail
   • Removing and Installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
5. Tensioning Rail
   • Do not separate from the camshaft timing chain -item  ) Camshaft Timing Chain
6. Mounting Pin
   • 23 Nm
7. Bolt
   • 9 Nm
8. Chain Tensioner
   • Removing and Installing. Refer to CHAIN TENSIONER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
9. Seal
   • Replace after removing.
10. Control Valve
    • For the camshaft adjuster
    • Tightening Specifications and Sequence. Refer to Installing - Have a second technician tension the : VAS6583 with the Socket : VAS261001 and : T90001 on the camshaft adjuster for the exhaust camshaft to 30 Nm counter-clockwise -arrow- and hold. .
11. O-Ring
    • Replace after removing.
12. Camshaft Adjuster
    • For the exhaust camshaft
    • Allocation. Refer to the Parts Information.
    • After removal replace the friction disc (diamond disc) -item  ) Friction Disc (Diamond Disc)
    • Removing and Installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING FROM CAMSHAFTS .
13. Friction Disc (Diamond Disc)
    • Replace after removing.
    • For the connection security between the camshaft adjuster and camshaft end
    • Bring the new friction disc (diamond disc) without kinking into its installation position
14. Camshaft Adjuster
    • For the intake camshaft
    • Allocation. Refer to the Parts Information.
    • After removal replace the friction disc (diamond disc) -item  ) Friction Disc (Diamond Disc)
    • Removing and Installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING FROM CAMSHAFTS .
15. Friction Disc (Diamond Disc)
    • Replace after removing.
    • For the connection security between the camshaft adjuster and camshaft end
    • Bring the new friction disc (diamond disc) without kinking into its installation position
16. O-Ring
    • Replace after removing.
17. Control Valve
    • For the camshaft adjuster
    • Tightening Specifications and Sequence. Refer to Installing - Have a second technician tension the : VAS6583 with the Socket : VAS261001 and : T90001 on the camshaft adjuster for the exhaust camshaft to 30 Nm counter-clockwise -arrow- and hold. .
18. Gliding Piece
    • Replace after removing.
19. Guide Pin
    • 5 Nm +45°
    • Replace after removing.
20. Guide Pin
    • 5 Nm +45°
    • Replace after removing.

1. Mounting Pin
   • 23 Nm
2. Tensioning Rail
3. Camshaft Timing Chain
   • Mark the running direction with paint for reinstallation
   • Removing from the camshafts. Refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING FROM CAMSHAFTS .
   • Removing and Installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
4. Chain Tensioner
   • Removing and Installing. Refer to CHAIN TENSIONER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
5. Bolt
   • 9 Nm
6. Seal
   • Replace after removing.
7. Gliding Piece
   • Replace after removing.
8. Control Valve
   • For the camshaft adjuster
   • Tightening Specifications and Sequence. Refer to Installing - Have a second technician tension the : VAS6583 with the Socket : VAS261001 and : T90001 on the camshaft adjuster for the exhaust camshaft to 30 Nm counter-clockwise -arrow- and hold. .
9. O-Ring
   • Replace after removing.
10. Camshaft Adjuster
    • For the intake camshaft
    • Allocation. Refer to the Parts Information.
    • After removal replace the friction disc (diamond disc) -item  ) Friction Disc (Diamond Disc)
    • Removing and Installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING FROM CAMSHAFTS .
11. Friction Disc (Diamond Disc)
    • Replace after removing.
    • For the connection security between the camshaft adjuster and camshaft end
    • Bring the new friction disc (diamond disc) without kinking into its installation position

    • Replace after removing.
    • For the connection security between the camshaft adjuster and camshaft end
    • Bring the new friction disc (diamond disc) without kinking into its installation position
13. Camshaft Adjuster
    • For the exhaust camshaft

    • After removal replace the friction disc (diamond disc) -item  ) Friction Disc (Diamond Disc)
    • Removing and Installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING FROM CAMSHAFTS .
14. O-Ring
    • Replace after removing.
15. Control Valve
    • For the camshaft adjuster
    • Tightening Specifications and Sequence. Refer to Installing - Have a second technician tension the : VAS6583 with the Socket : VAS261001 and : T90001 on the camshaft adjuster for the exhaust camshaft to 30 Nm counter-clockwise -arrow- and hold. .
