Camshaft Timing Chain, Removing From Camshafts, Cylinder Bank 2 (Left): Removing
Required preliminary work when removing the camshaft timing chain from the camshafts with the engine installed. Refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING FROM CAMSHAFTS .
Risk of destroying the engine by adjusting the valve timing.
- Never turn the crankshaft and camshafts if the chain drive is not completely installed.
-- Remove the cylinder bank 2 upper timing chain cover. Refer to TIMING CHAIN GUARD UPPER SECTION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the upper air duct pipe. Refer to AIR DUCT PIPE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the vacuum pump. Refer to VACUUM PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Risk of damaging the engine by the timing mechanism skipping.
- Only let the engine turn in the direction of engine rotation.
-- Using the Wrench - 21mm: T40263 and Adapter: T40314 , turn the crankshaft in direction of -arrow- until the vibration damper is at "TDC" (shown on a 3.0L engine).
- The marks -1 and 2- on the camshaft adjusters must align with the corresponding locating tabs -arrows- on the camshaft housing. If necessary turn the crankshaft an additional turn.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the plugs -2-.
-- Push the oil dipstick tube -1- slightly to the side.
-- Tighten the : T40331/2 on the camshaft housing to 9 Nm.
- It must be easy to insert the : T40331/1
.
- Do not use a hammer to install the camshaft positioning tool.
-- Insert the : T40331/1 all the way in the camshafts. If necessary slightly turn the crankshaft.
- The : T40331/5 engages as shown in the upper asymmetrical groove -1- on the exhaust camshaft.
- The : T40331/6 engages as shown in the flattened position -2- on the intake camshaft.
-- Tighten the bolts -arrows- to 9 Nm.
TIP:
The : T90001 can only be inserted in one position for this the notch -1- and the mark -2- on the camshaft adjuster must align to each other.
There is a risk of damaging the camshaft if handled incorrectly.
- Never use the camshaft positioning tool as a counterholder.
-- To counterhold on the affected camshaft adjuster, position the : T90001 with : VAS261001 , and loosen the control valve -1- with the : T90000 .
-- For reinstallation mark the camshaft adjuster to the camshafts using paint.
- The notch -1- on the vibration damper aligns to the locating tab -2- on the belt pulley side sealing flange.
Procedure, If the Engine Is NOT Removed Due to Preliminary Work.
-- Install the : T40264/3 at the vibration damper opening all the way by hand into the belt pulley side sealing flange. If necessary, move the crankshaft back and forth slightly to center the bolt.
Procedure, If the Engine Is Removed Due to Preliminary Work.
-- Install the : T40069 in the hole and tighten to 20 Nm. If necessary push the crankshaft slightly back and forth.
Continuation:
-- Turn back the glide rail -2- in direction of -arrow- and pistons from the chain tensioner -1- using the : T03006 .
TIP:
The piston is lubricated with oil and can only be pushed back slowly by applying constant pressure.
-- Remove the control valves -1 and 2- and remove both camshaft adjusters.
