Rear Axle Steering Gear, Aligning
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Locking Tool:T40326
- The : 40326 is only used for aligning the rear axle steering gear during service.
- When the rear axle steering gear is installed at the factory, the :40326 may not fit into the guides designed for it. However if this is the case, the steering gear can still be mounted and aligned correctly.
The rear axle steering gear must only be aligned if the factory threaded connection was loosened or under the following circumstances:
- If there are driveability problems.
- If there is high or uneven tire wear.
Procedure
-- Remove the rear steering gear bolts -arrows- one at a time and replace them with new bolts.
-- Lightly install the bolts by hand.
-- Install the :T40326 .
Right Side of Vehicle:
- Pay attention to the labeling -2- "rechts/right".
- The "arrow" points in the direction of travel.
- The rear axle steering -1- is positioned on the points -3- on the locking tool pin.
- The pin of the locking tool must engage in the holes -4- on the subframe.
Left side of vehicle
- Pay attention to the labeling -3- "links/left".
- The "arrow" points in the direction of travel.
- The half round mounts -2- from the rear axle steering -4- must be positioned on the pin of the locking tool.
- The pin of the locking tool must engage in the holes -1- on the subframe.
-- Tighten the threaded connections for the rear axle steering.
-- Remove the :T40326 .
-- After aligning, drive the vehicle onto the alignment rack.
-- Then measure the vehicle. Refer to AXLE ALIGNMENT .
