Front Axle Camber, Centering

TIP:

Procedure 

-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .

-- Remove the left and right front wheel spoiler. Refer to OVERVIEW - FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER .

-- Loosen the rear of the left and right front wheel housing liners and move them to the side. Refer to OVERVIEW - FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER .

-- Loosen the left and right center underbody trim panels in the front area and lower them slightly. Refer to OVERVIEW - UNDERBODY TRIM PANELS .

-- Remove the rear bolts -arrows- on the crossbrace bracket.

CAUTION:

Improper handling increases the risk of damaging the threads in the vehicle body.

- Never use an impact wrench to loosen or tighten.

- Position the bolts by hand only and screw in the first threads.

-- Remove the left and right bolts -1 and arrows- for the subframe one after the other and replace.

-- Install the new bolts all the way by hand.

-- Move the subframe with a plastic-coated pry bar into the corresponding position in direction of -arrow-.

-- To do so place the pry bar in the center of the subframe near the control arm between the subframe and the body longitudinal member.

TIP:

If no plastic-coated pry bar is available, wrap a conventional pry bar with adhesive tape.

-- The vehicle must be bounced several times at the front axle before checking the camber values.

Equipment Versions with 3.0L TDI Engine with Electrical Compressor:

CAUTION:

There is a risk of damaging the electrical compressor in drive mode if contact is made with the longitudinal member.

- Maintain the minimum distance between the electrical compressor and longitudinal member.

-- Pay attention to the minimum distance -a- between the electrical compressor -1- and the left longitudinal member -2-.

Continuation for All:

-- Tighten the left and right bolts for the subframe diagonally in steps.

-- Then check the camber value again. Refer to AXLE ALIGNMENT SPECIFIED VALUES .

CAUTION:

Risk of faulty axle alignment.

- Check all axle alignment values after correcting the camber.
