Scan Tool VAG 1551, Connecting And Selecting Functions: Notes

NOTE:

DTC memory can only be erased after the checking sequence has been completed.

The main program of the ABS Control Module (w/EDL) -J104- is deactivated during the On Board Diagnostic program, the ABS is not operational.

Scan Tool VAS 1551, Connecting

Refer to test requirements SAFETY PRECAUTIONS AND TROUBLESHOOTING .

-- Using adapter harness : VAG1551 /1, connect scan tool: VAG1551 to Data Link Connectors (DLC) in auxiliary relay panel 1 on left side of plenum chamber, as follows:

-- Connect black plug to black DLC.

NOTE:

If there is no display, check voltage supply for black DLC DATA LINK CONNECTOR VAG 1551 WIRING, CHECKING .

Indicated on display SCAN TOOL VAG 1551, CONNECTING AND SELECTING FUNCTIONS => List Item: Operating modes 1 and 2 are displayed alternately

Operating modes 1 and 2 are displayed alternately

-- Connect white connector to white DLC.

NOTE:

The blue connector is not required.

-- Switch on ignition or start engine as required, list of functions, Functions .

NOTE:

The HELP button on VAG 1551can be used to call up additional operating instructions.

The → button is used to advance to the next step in the On Board Diagnostic program sequence.

The printer can be switched on by pressing the PRINT button (indicator light comes on in button).

-- Press button 1 for "Rapid data transfer" operating mode.

Insert address word XX

-- Press buttons 0 and 3 to insert "Brake Electronics" address word 03.

-- Press Q button to confirm input.

ABS control module identification indicated on display

NOTE:

The "A" suffix in the control module identification indicates vehicles without Electronic Differential Lock (EDL).

If there is a malfunction in the communication link between the ABS control module and the scan tool: VAG1551 , refer to the displays and instructions that follow:

Control module does not answer

-- Press HELP button to print out a list of possible causes.

-- Follow specific recommendations below.

K wire not switching to Ground HELP

-- Indicated on display

K wire not switching to B+ HELP

-- Check wiring and connections for Data Link Connectors DATA LINK CONNECTOR VAG 1551 WIRING, CHECKING .

No signal from control module

-- Indicated on display

-- Check power supply and Ground connection to ABS control module -J104- using wiring diagram.

-- After correcting possible malfunctions, once again insert "Brake Electronics" address word 03 and press Q button to confirm input.

Error in communication link

-- If "Error in communication link" appears VAG 1551 Indicates Error in Communication Link, Checking Wiring Connections for correcting possible malfunction.
