Front Brakes Overview, S4 And S6
WARNING:
- Always install all parts included in repair kit.
- Brakes can be tested on any commercially available brake dynamometer provided the drive roller speed does not exceed 5.5 km/h (3.3 mph).
- Brake hose
- Do not disconnect to replace brake pads
- Bolt
- 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
- Bracket
- Install on brake caliper housing
- Install harness connector for brake pad wear indicator
- Retaining spring
- Serrated bolt
- 250 Nm (184 ft lb)
- Clean serrations when reusing
- Brake line
- Brake caliper
- During installation, do not let caliper hang by brake hose, instead tie up to body with wire
- Except for replacing brake pads (FRONT BRAKE PADS, S4 AND S6 ) and repairing brake calipers (FRONT DOUBLE-PISTON BRAKE CALIPER OVERVIEW, S4 AND S6 ), no other repairs can be done on brake caliper
- Make sure brake caliper is free of contamination (grease, adhesive residue) before installing brake pads
- Torx® bolt
- 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
- Part of brake pad repair kit and must be used
- Remove and install with standard commercial Torx® -T40- driver such as Hazet T 40
- Harness connector
- Remove from bracket on brake caliper when changing brake pads
- Wiring bracket
- Install brake pad wear indicator wire in wiring holder
- Brake pads
- Brake pad wear indicator light, if so equipped, lights up in instrument cluster when brake pads are worn
- Remove adhesive backing on outer brake pad backing plate before installing
- Replace in pairs FRONT BRAKE PADS, S4 AND S6
- Thickness (new): 14 mm (0.55 in.)NOTE:
Before installing new brake pads, brake calipers should be cleaned thoroughly. Pay special attention to removing adhesive film residue on contact surfaces for outer brake pads.
- Brake disc
- Replace in pairs
- Remove brake caliper first
- When resurfacing, make sure thickness of resurfaced disc is sufficiently above wear limit
- Diameter: 314 mm (12.36 in.)
- Thickness: 30 mm (1.18 in.)
- Wear limit: 28 mm (1.10 in.)
