Brake Pressure Limiter, Checking

The brake pressure limiter, installed between left and right rear brake calipers, is a delay-dependent brake proportioning valve that prevents locking of the right rear wheel when simultaneously driving rapidly around curves to the right, and braking.

-- Install brake pedal depressor between driver seat and brake pedal.

-- Remove both bleeder screws from rear brake caliper

-- Connect pressure gauge VAG 1310 to left and right brake caliper in place of bleeder screws.

-- Bleed both gauges.

-- Engage parking brake.

-- Lift vehicle 350-400 mm (14-16 inches) on right side lifting points (measured at wheelhousing).

-- Remove brake pedal depressor.

-- Operate brake pedal until the left rear gauge displays approx. 40 bar (580 psi).

-- Read pressure on gauge for right rear caliper

Specified value on right gauge: 20 + 5 bar (290 + 72 psi) (positive tolerance only)

-- Install brake depressor between driver seat and brake pedal.

-- Disconnect gauge.

-- Install bleeder screws in brake calipers.

-- Bleed brakes.

-- Remove brake pedal depressor.

-- Top off brake fluid if necessary.
