Rear Brakes, Adjusting, 100 And A6

During basic adjustment, parking brake must not be engaged (release parking brake)

Inspection

-- Using screwdriver, alternately press levers for parking brake cable

If the lever of the opposite brake caliper is pulled away from the stop, the parking brake cable is too tight.

NOTE:

The stop is shown on a brake caliper that has been removed.

-- Loosen parking brake cable adjusting nut until both levers lie on stop.

NOTE:

Install 10 mm deepwell socket on adjusting nut, then install flexible extension onto socket and ratchet.

-- Clamp 6 mm (1/4 in.) drill bit between lower brake pressure regulator spring end and bracket.

-- With engine not running, depress brake pedal twice with moderate force.

-- Remove drill bit.

-- Check that both wheels turn freely.
