Passenger Seat Cannot Be Adjusted

NOTE:

If malfunctioning components are identified in the following test steps, also check the wiring to these components using the wiring diagram. The procedures for removing and repairing passenger seat components are the same as for the driver's seat.

Power supply for passenger seat adjustment switch, checking
-- Remove front seat fasteners and raise front of seat for access to connector-- Remove seat side panel trim-- Disconnect connector for passenger seat adjustment switch-- Set multimeter (Fluke 83 or equivalent) to measure voltage-- Connect test leads alternately between terminals 9 and 2, then 10 and 3 of connector
  • Must read approximately 12 volts

Passenger seat adjustment switch, checking
-- Reconnect seat adjustment connector-- Operate seat switch in following sequence when performing checks:
Front of seat down -- Connect test leads of multimeter between terminals 6 and 3 of connector-- Operate switch to move front of seat down
  • Must read approximately 12 volts
Front of seat up -- Connect test leads of multimeter between terminals 14 and 3 of connector-- Operate switch to move front of seat up
  • Must read approximately 12 volts
Seat forward on tracks -- Connect test leads of multimeter between terminals 5 and 3 of connector-- Operate switch to move seat forward on tracks
  • Must read approximately 12 volts
Seat rearward on track -- Connect test leads of multimeter between terminals 7 and 3 of connector-- Operate switch to move seat rearward on track
  • Must read approximately 12 volts
Rear of seat down -- Connect test leads of multimeter between terminals 4 and 2 of connector-- Operate switch to move rear of seat down
  • Must read approximately 12 volts

Rear of seat up -- Connect test leads of multimeter between terminals 13 and 2 of connector-- Operate switch to move rear of seat up
  • Must read approximately 12 volts
Backrest upward -- Connect test leads of multimeter between terminals 12 and 2 of connector-- Operate switch to move backrest upward
  • Must read approximately 12 volts
Backrest downward -- Connect test leads of multimeter between terminals 11 and 2 of connector-- Operate switch to move backrest downward
  • Must read approximately 12 volts
One or more specified values NOT OK All specified values OK

Passenger seat adjustment motors, checking
-- Disconnect wiring at adjustment motors-- Briefly connect a fused 30 amp external power source to the terminals of each adjustment motor; then repeat with reversed polarity
  • Adjustment motor must move adjuster linkage continuously to both end positions, according to polarity
