Five-Point Connector Identification, Checking
Connector located behind instrument cluster.
-- Remove instrument cluster INSTRUMENT CLUSTER .
-- Disconnect five-point outside temperature display connector.
Terminal 1: speed signal
-- Set digital multimeter (Fluke 83 or equivalent) to mV range.
-- Connect red multimeter test lead to terminal -1- of five-point connector and black multimeter test lead to ground (-).
-- Drive vehicle at walking speed.
- Must be approx. 4 mV
Terminal 2: temperature sensor
-- Set digital multimeter (Fluke 83 or equivalent) to measure resistance (Ω).
-- Connect red multimeter test lead to terminal -2- of five-point connector and black multimeter test lead to ground (-).
- Resistance value must match chart at left (varies with temperature)
Terminal 3: Ground (GND)
-- Set digital multimeter (Fluke 83 or equivalent) to measure resistance (Ω).
-- Connect red multimeter test lead to terminal -3- of five-point connector and black multimeter test lead to ground (-).
- Must be 0 ohms (Ω) (continuity)
Terminal 4: instrument illumination, terminal 58d
-- Switch parking lights ON.
-- Set digital multimeter (Fluke 83 or equivalent) to volt range.
-- Connect red multimeter test lead to terminal -4- of five-point connector and black multimeter test lead to ground (-).
- Must be approx. battery voltage (depends on position of instrument panel light dimmer switch)
Terminal 5: positive, terminal 15a
-- Set digital multimeter (Fluke 83 or equivalent) to volt range.
-- Connect red multimeter test lead to terminal -5- of five-point connector and black multimeter test lead to ground (-).
-- Switch ignition ON.
- Must be approx. battery voltage
