Central Locking, Anti-Theft Alarm, Interior Light Delay, Electrical Troubleshooting

Test requirements

Central locking system and/or alarm system and/or interior light delay, do not work

If all specified values are obtained during troubleshooting:

-- Replace central locking/alarm system/interior light delay control module -V94-.

-- Obtain radio security code.

-- Remove rear seat bench.

-- Disconnect and remove battery.

-- Remove central locking/alarm system/interior light delay control module -V94- from insulation.

-- Install and reconnect battery.

-- Remove 6-point connector (voltage supply, B+) from central locking/alarm system/interior light delay control module -V94-.

NOTE:

In order to prevent possible malfunctions, always connect the 6-point connector (voltage supply, B+) to central locking/alarm system/interior light delay control module -V94- last.

-- Code radio after tests are complete.

-- Perform following tests on removed 6-point connector.

1 Voltage supply (B+) and Ground (GND)
  • Set multimeter (Fluke 83 or equivalent) to volt range
  -- Check wiring for open circuit according to wiring diagram, repair as necessary
    -- Connect multimeter red test lead to terminal 2 of connector and black test lead to terminal 3
  • 12 volts
 
    -- Connect multimeter red test lead to terminal 1 of connector and black test lead to terminal 3
  • 12 volts
-- Check wiring for open circuit according to wiring diagram, repair as necessary
2 Alarm horn -- Using jumper wire, bridge terminals 2 and 4 of connector
  • Alarm horn sounds
-- Check wiring for open circuit according to wiring diagram, repair as necessary, or-- Replace alarm horn
3 Signal lights, right -- Using jumper wire, bridge terminals 2 and 5 of connector
  • Right lights illuminate
-- Check wiring for open circuit according to wiring diagram, repair as necessary, or-- Replace bulbs
4 Signal lights, left -- Using jumper wire, bridge terminals 2 and 6 of connector
  • Left lights illuminate
-- Check wiring for open circuit according to wiring diagram, repair as necessary, or-- Replace bulbs
-- Reconnect 6-point connector to central locking/alarm system/interior light delay control module -V94-.-- Connect adapter harness : VAG1598/11  to 12-point and 16-point control module connectors VAG 1598/11 ADAPTER HARNESS, CONNECTING TO CONTROL MODULE .-- Connect adapter harness to VAG 1598 test box.

5 Door lock switch, driver's door (near inside door handle)
  • Set multimeter (Fluke 83 or equivalent) to measure resistance (Ω)
-- Connect multimeter red test lead to test box socket 45 and black test lead to Ground (GND)
  -- Check wiring for open circuit according to wiring diagram, repair as necessary, or-- Replace door lock switch
    -- Press door lock switch down (lock position)
  • 0 Ω (continuity)
 
   
  • Set multimeter to volt range (leave connected to VAG 1598 test box)
   
    -- Press door lock switch up (open position)
  • 12 volts

6 Lock cylinder switch, driver's door
  • Set multimeter to measure resistance (Ω)
  -- Check wiring for open circuit according to wiring diagram, repair as necessary, or-- Replace lock cylinder switch
    -- Connect multimeter red test lead to test box socket 43 and black test lead to Ground (GND)-- Close driver's door and insert key into lock cylinder
  • ∞ Ω (no continuity)
 
    -- Turn key to unlock position and hold against stop
  • 0 Ω (continuity)
 
    -- Connect multimeter red test lead to test box socket 44 and black test lead to GND-- Close driver's door and insert key into lock cylinder
  • ∞ Ω (no continuity)
 
    -- Turn key to lock position and hold against stop
  • 0 Ω (continuity)

7 Lock cylinder switch, passenger's door
  • Set multimeter to measure resistance (Ω)
  -- Check wiring for open circuit according to wiring diagram, repair as necessary, or-- Replace lock cylinder switch
    -- Connect multimeter red test lead to test box socket 43 and black test lead to Ground (GND)-- Close passenger's door and insert key into lock cylinder
  • ∞ Ω (no continuity)
 
    -- Turn key to unlock position and hold against stop
  • 0 Ω (continuity)
 
    -- Connect multimeter red test lead to test box socket 44 and black test lead to GND-- Close passenger's door and insert key into lock cylinder
  • ∞ Ω (no continuity)
 
    -- Turn key to lock position and hold against stop
  • 0 Ω (continuity)

8 Alarm switch, trunk lock
  • Set multimeter to measure resistance (Ω)
  -- Check wiring for open circuit according to wiring diagram, repair as necessary, or-- Replace trunk lock cylinder
    -- Connect multimeter red test lead to test box socket 11 and black test lead to GND
  • ∞ Ω (no continuity)
 
    -- Insert key into trunk lock cylinder    
    -- Turn key to unlock position and hold against stop
  • 0 Ω (continuity)
 
    -- Connect multimeter red test lead to test box socket 6 and black test lead to GND-- Insert key into trunk lock cylinder
  • ∞ Ω (no continuity)
 
    -- Turn key to lock position and hold against stop
  • 0 Ω (continuity)
 
9 Ignition/starter switch
  • Set multimeter to volt range
-- Connect multimeter red test lead to test box socket 42 and black test lead to GND
  -- Check wiring for open circuit according to wiring diagram, repair as necessary, or-- Replace ignition/starter switch
    -- Push ignition/starter switch in by hand (do not switch ON)
  • 12 volts

10 Interior lights
  • Connect adapter harness : VAG1598/11  to central locking/alarm system/interior light delay control module -V94-
-- Switch interior light switch ON-- Switch interior light switch to "door contact switch" position
  • Interior lights come on
-- Check wiring for open circuit according to wiring diagram, repair as necessary, or-- Replace bulbs
         
    -- Open and close each door individually (wait for interior lights to go off after opening and closing each door)
  • Interior lights come on when each door is opened
 
11 Door contact switches
  • Disconnect adapter harness : VAG1598/11  from central locking/alarm system/interior light delay control module -V94-
  • Set multimeter to measure resistance (Ω)
  -- Check wiring for open circuit according to wiring diagram, repair as necessary, or-- Replace door contact switch
    -- Connect multimeter red test lead to test box socket 50 and black test lead to GND-- Close all doors
  • ∞ Ω (no continuity) with doors closed
 
    -- Open each door, one at a time
  • 0 Ω (continuity) when each door is opened

12 Alarm switch, trunk
  • Set multimeter to measure resistance (Ω)
-- Connect multimeter red test lead to test box socket 4 and black test lead to GND
  -- Check wiring for open circuit according to wiring diagram, repair as necessary, or-- Replace trunk switch
    -- Close trunk
  • ∞ Ω (no continuity)
 
    -- Open trunk
  • 0 Ω (continuity)
 
13 Alarm switch, hood
  • Set multimeter to measure resistance (Ω)
-- Connect multimeter red test lead to test box socket 14 and black test lead to GND
  -- Check wiring for open circuit according to wiring diagram, repair as necessary, or-- Replace hood switch
    -- Close hood
  • ∞ Ω (no continuity)
 
    -- Open hood
  • 0 Ω (continuity)
 
14 Radio connection (if applicable)
  • Set multimeter to measure resistance (Ω)
-- Connect multimeter red test lead to test box socket 13 and black test lead to GND
  • 0 Ω (continuity)
-- Check wiring for open circuit according to wiring diagram, repair as necessary
15 Automatic Transmission Control Module (TCM) and Ground (GND) wire
  • Set multimeter to measure resistance (Ω)
-- Connect multimeter red test lead to test box socket 9 and black test lead to GND
  • 0 Ω (continuity)
-- Check wiring for open circuit according to wiring diagram, repair as necessary, or-- Replace TCM

16 Central locking/alarm system/interior light delay control module -V94- Ground (GND)
  • Set multimeter to measure resistance (Ω)
-- Connect multimeter red test lead to test socket 3 and black test lead to GND
  • 0 Ω (continuity)
-- Check wiring for open circuit according to wiring diagram, repair as necessary
