Central Locking Troubleshooting, Vacuum System

Central locking system motor runs, door locks do not operate

NOTE:

If the central locking system motor runs longer than 7 seconds without the door locks operating, there is a vacuum leak in the central locking system. The central locking system motor will shut off automatically after approximately 30 seconds.

-- Refer to the illustration in CENTRAL LOCKING SYSTEM OVERVIEW  for central locking system component layout.

-- Disconnect one hose connection from vacuum hose junction.

-- Plug open connection on junction.

-- Operate central locking system motor (with key in driver's door lock).

If central locking system operates normally, problem is in portion of vacuum circuit just disconnected.

-- Continue disconnecting and plugging connections on junction one at a time until leaking portion of vacuum circuit is determined.

Once leaking portion of vacuum circuit is determined:

-- Use same principle to determine which component, hose or connection is leaking.

-- Check each vacuum hose and connection until leak is found, repair/replace components, vacuum hoses or connections as necessary.
