Camshaft, Measuring Axial Clearance

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Dial Indicator Holder:VW387

Procedure 

• The camshaft housing is removed. Refer to CAMSHAFT HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the Camshaft Positioning Tool :T40331/1  .

-- Secure the Dial Indicator - 0-10mm:VAS 6079  with the Dial Indicator Holder:VW 387  on the camshaft housing.

-- Press the camshaft against the dial gauge by hand.

-- Set the dial gauge to "0".

-- Press camshaft off the dial gauge and read the value:

Axial clearance

• Intake camshaft: 0.014 to 0.064 mm
• Exhaust camshaft: 0.048 to 0.155 mm
