Vibration Damper, Removing And Installing, Version 1: Removing

-- Remove the fan shroud. Refer to FAN SHROUD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the ribbed belt. Refer to RIBBED BELT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and push the wiring duct downward.

TIP:

Depending on the version the arrow mark -2- may not be present. In this case position the vibration damper with the notch -1- to approximately the >>four-o'clock position<< and apply a color mark.

-- Turn the crankshaft using the Wrench - 21mm:T40263  , Adapter:T40314  and the 24 mm socket until the vibration damper is at "TDC".

• The notch -1- on the vibration damper must align with the arrow marking -2- on the lower timing chain cover.
• The mark on the lower timing chain cover is located in the >>four-o'clock position<<.

• The vibration damper bolts can only be loosened maximum ¹ /₂ turn at first.

-- Loosen the vibration damper bolt approximately ¹ /₂ , to do this use the Counterholder:T40378  -1-.

-- If the vibration damper is turned, correct it to the "TDC" point.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- for the lower timing chain cover.

-- Install the Adapter:T10531/5  hand-tight in the cylinder block.

-- Place the Assembly Tool - Mount Vibration Damper Assembly Tool - Counterhold Tool:T10531/1  as shown on the vibration damper and tighten the knurled bolt -1 and 3- in the adapter hand-tight.

-- If necessary, align the adapter on the inner hex socket -2- with a 4 mm hex socket wrench and counterhold.

• The arrow marking on the mount must point upward.

-- Remove the vibration damper bolt completely.

-- Check if the Vibration Damper Assembly Tool - Turning Over Tool:T10531/3  -item A- can be easily pushed over the clamping piece -B-. If necessary, remove the tensioning bolt -arrow- slightly.

• Do not turn the tensioning bolt any more, otherwise the Assembly Tool - Tensioning Pins:T10531/6  will jam when installing in the crankshaft.

-- Install the Vibration Damper Assembly Tool - Tensioning Pin:T10531/6  in the crankshaft and tighten it hand-tight using a 12 mm open end wrench -item A-.

-- Tighten the adjusting bolt -A- hand-tight, to secure the chain sprocket to the crankshaft.

-- Remove the knurled bolts -arrows-. Remove the Vibration Damper Assembly Tool - Counterhold Tool:T10531/1  and vibration damper -A-.

If the Crankshaft Should be Turned without the Vibration Damper:

-- Place the Vibration Damper Assembly Tool - Turning Over Tool:T10531/3  -item A- on the Vibration Damper Assembly Tool - Tensioning Pin:T10531/6  and pay attention to the chain sprocket tooth contour while doing so.

• The flat side of the tool is at the top in TDC.

-- Tighten the turning over tool using the Vibration Damper Assembly Tool - Knurled Nut:T10531/4  -item B-.

-- The crankshaft can now be turned at the hex fitting -arrow-.
