Rear Axle: Removing

-- Release parking brake.

-- Remove rear wheels.

-- Loosen nut (arrow) and remove brake pressure regulator spring.

-- Remove rubber grommet from trailing arms.

-- Remove wire loop from trailing arm.

-- Remove parking brake cable from brake backing plate and trailing arm.

-- Disconnect parking brake cables at brake calipers by pressing screwdriver or brake lever in direction shown (arrow).

-- Remove spring clip from brake caliper and withdraw brake cable from thrust bearing.

-- Insert pedal support between brake pedal and driver's seat to prevent any flow of brake fluid.

-- Disconnect brake hoses on both sides and seal brake lines.

-- Remove fastening bolts for trailing arms; do not completely remove left-hand bolt at this stage.

-- Remove fastening bolt for Panhard rod.

-- Support rear axle with transmission jack or equivalent; do not jack up vehicle.

NOTE:

When removing the rear axle with :VAG1383A  transmission jack, it can be secured with the strap from the jack, as shown.

-- Remove lower suspension strut mounting bolts on both sides.

-- Remove left fastening bolt for side member.

-- Lower rear axle.

Installing 

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, noting the following special points:

-- Insert wire loop for parking brake cables into trailing arms.

-- Install brake discs and adjust wheel bearing play OUTER REAR AXLE WHEEL OVERVIEW .

-- Adjust brake pressure regulator and bleed brake system BRAKE FLUID, BLEEDING AND CHARGING .
