Tailgate Assembly Overview, Wagon

• 21 ± 2.1 Nm (15 ft lb ± 18 in lb)

• Removing, refer to Fig. 1 Removing and Installing Gas-Filled Strut .
• Discarding, refer to Fig. 2 Discarding Gas-Filled Strut .

To remove: 

-- Open and support tailgate.

-- Pull out boot 1 from both sides of tailgate.

-- Remove trim  TAILGATE ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW, WAGON (see inset).

-- Remove trim  TAILGATE ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW, WAGON from both sides inward toward center of vehicle.

-- Remove bolts  TAILGATE ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW, WAGON.

-- Remove lower trim  TAILGATE ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW, WAGON downward.

-- Disconnect and remove electrical connections at tailgate.

-- Disconnect and remove hoses for rear washer and center door locking.

-- Unclip and disconnect wiring harness, hoses going into tailgate.

-- Remove harness cable seals on tailgate.

-- Remove nuts  TAILGATE ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW, WAGON on both sides.

-- Remove spoiler  TAILGATE ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW, WAGON.

-- Unbutton base  TAILGATE ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW, WAGON on both sides.

-- Remove gas-filled struts  TAILGATE ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW, WAGON. Refer to Fig. 1 Removing and Installing Gas-Filled Strut .

-- Remove tailgate from hinges. Refer to TAILGATE FROM HINGES, WAGON .

Installing: 

-- Install all components in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

-- Ensure tailgate seal is installed and correctly positioned.

-- Ensure all retaining clips are in place, and hoses for rear washer and central door locking are not pinched.
