Auxiliary Heater Control Module:J604 (WITH Auxiliary Heater Heating Element -Z35-), REMOVING AND INSTALLING: Removing
-- Switch the ignition on.
-- Set the airflow direction on the Front A/C Display Control Head -E87- / Front Information Display Control Head 2 -J1060- to "DEF" (for the windshield).
-- Set the temperature preset of the Front A/C Display Control Head -E87- / Front Information Display Control Head 2 -J1060- for the right side to "Warm" (only on a "Low" or "Mid" A/C system).
-- Move the right front seat all the way to the rear.
-- Switch off the ignition.
-- Remove the glove compartment. Refer to GLOVE COMPARTMENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
TIP
- On RHD vehicles position the rear seat in the rearmost position and remove the instrument panel (due to the Defroster Door Motor -V107-). Refer to Defroster Door Motor -V107-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the right footwell vent. Refer to FRONT PASSENGER SIDE FOOTWELL VENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- If equipped, remove the air duct for the glove compartment cooling. Refer to AIR DUCT FOR GLOVE COMPARTMENT COOLING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the Fresh Air Blower -V2- (with Fresh Air Blower Control Module -J126-) (not on RHD vehicles). Refer to Fresh Air Blower -V2- WITH Fresh Air Blower Control Module -J126-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Risk of short circuit when disconnecting the voltage supply to the.
- Interrupt the power supply to the Auxiliary Heater Heating Element -Z35- by pulling on the related fuse. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.
- Before loosening the hex nut check with a voltage tester that there is no more voltage.
-- Interrupt the power supply to the Auxiliary Heater Heating Element -Z35- by pulling on the related fuse. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.
for vehicles with a "Mix" or "High" A/C system
-- Remove the bracket for the right adjustment motors. Refer to BRACKET FOR RIGHT ADJUSTMENT MOTORS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (ON A "Mix" OR "High" A/C SYSTEM), PR NUMBER 9AU/ 9AH/ 9AQ .
-- Remove the connector from the Rear Air Distribution Door Motor -V427- / Rear Air Quantity Motor -V443-. Refer to Rear Air Distribution Door Motor -V427- / Rear Air Quantity Motor -V443- / Right Rear Air Distribution Motor -V594-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Continuation for All Vehicles
-- Release and disconnect the connector -A- from the Auxiliary Heater Control Module -J604- -D-.
-- Again check between connections -C- (positive) and -B- (negative) for example using a voltage tester. There must no longer be any voltage present (danger of short circuit).
- To prevent the -C- (positive) and -B- (negative) connections from being switched, they have different diameters (M6 threads and M8 threads on the auxiliary air heater control module -J604-).
- If connections (-C- and -B-) are interchanged, the auxiliary air heater control module -J604- can no longer regulate the current so that current flows continuously through the auxiliary heater heating element -Z35- (unregulated with maximum heat output).
-- Remove the wire connections -B- and -C- to the auxiliary air heater control module -J604-.
-- Individually insulate the wire connections -B- and -C- after removal (risk of short circuit).
-- Remove the bolts -E-.
There is a risk of burns by the metal surfaces on the auxiliary heater heating element. Heating elements can be very hot.
It is possible for the skin to be burned.
- Wear safety gloves.
- Never touch the metal surfaces of the heating element.
-- Remove the Auxiliary Heater Control Module -J604- (with the Auxiliary Heater Heating Element -Z35-) -D- from the installation slot on the heater and A/C unit.
