Engine And Transmission, Separating

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

Procedure 

-- Remove the ribbed belt tensioner for the A/C compressor. Refer to RIBBED BELT TENSIONER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the starter generator. Refer to GENERATOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING . The subframe remains in the installed position.

-- Remove the drive axles on the transmission. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Procedures If Engine Removal Is Not Completed:

-- Remove the ATF cooler. Refer to the appropriate Service Information .

-- Remove the lower cover -1- from the transmission in direction of -arrow-.

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging the engine by the timing mechanism skipping.

- Only let the engine turn in the direction of engine rotation.

-- To loosen the bolts for the torque converter, counterhold the crankshaft using the : T40263  and : T40314  on the vibration damper.

-- Remove the six bolts -arrow- for the torque converter on the drive plate -1-. Turn the crankshaft an additional 60° in the direction of engine rotation.

-- Remove the bolt -arrow- and free up the bracket -1- with the wiring harness.

-- Loosen the hose clamp -arrow- and remove the coolant hose.

-- Remove the bolt -2-, loosen the hose clamp -1-, and remove the right coolant pipe -3-.

-- Set up the : VAS6131B  as follows:

-- Secure the : VAS6131/13-7  as shown on the left front of the engine in the ribbed belt tensioner threaded hole.

-- Tighten the engine supports on the Scissor Lift Table to 20 Nm.

-- Place the mounting element from the : VAS6131/10  on the left side of the transmission.

-- Place the mounting elements from the : VAS6131/10  and : VAS6131/11-1  on the right of the transmission.

-- Turn the left and right spindles upward until all the mounting pins come into contact with the mounting points.

-- Fasten the mounting element base plates to 20 Nm on the : VAS6131B  .

-- Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to CATALYTIC CONVERTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the bolts -2 through 11- that attach the engine to the transmission.

-- Loosen the bolt -1- for the starter using the : VAG1332/14  .

-- Loosen the clamping screws on the side of the : VAS6131B  and pull the rear table top with the transmission slightly to the rear in direction of -arrow-. While doing so, remove the starter bolt completely.

-- Pull the transmission all the way to the rear. If necessary, lower it slightly using the front spindles.
