Front Seat, Removing With Faulty Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Cordless screwdriver or drill, not illustrated
Driver Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor -V28- /Front Passenger Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor -V31-, Checking
Risk of injury due to involuntary deployment.
- Pay attention to the safety precautions when working with pyrotechnic components. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHEN WORKING WITH PYROTECHNIC COMPONENTS .
- Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". For example, this can be done by briefly touching the door striker.
-- Move the front seat into its highest position.
To avoid unnecessary repair costs, check electrical and electronic components and wires before removing the front seat any more.
-- Perform the following tests:
- Check the fuse. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.
- Check the voltage on the seat forward/back adjustment motor. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.
- Check the voltage on the seat adjustment control head, and perform Fault Finding if necessary. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.
- Check the voltage at the connector station and perform Fault Finding if necessary. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.
-- Replace the fuse if faulty. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.
-- If the seat forward/back adjustment motor is faulty, replace the seat pan. Refer to FRONT BACKREST, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- If there is no voltage at the connector station or control head, repair or replace the wire. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.
-- If the control head is faulty: replace the Driver Seat Adjustment Control Head -E470- / Front Passenger Seat Adjustment Control Head -E471-. Refer to Driver Seat Adjustment Control Head -E470- /Front Passenger Seat Adjustment Control Head -E471-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- If the control module is faulty: replace the Memory Seat/Steering Column Adjustment Control Module -J136- / Front Passenger Memory Seat Control Module -J521-. Refer to SEAT FUNCTIONS CONTROL MODULE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Removing with faulty Driver and Front Passenger Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor -V28- / -V31-
Risk of malfunction due to electrostatic discharge.
- Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". For example, this can be done by briefly touching the door striker.
-- Disconnect the battery ground cable when the ignition is turned on. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
-- Remove the center seat rail cover. Refer to CENTER SEAT RAIL COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Disconnect the connectors -3- from the connector station in the floor, and connect the Airbag Lockout Adapter :VAS 6282 to the thorax airbag connector. Refer to AIRBAG ADAPTER, CONNECTING AND DISCONNECTING .
-- Remove the modular wire routing bracket -4- on the seat pan lower frame -arrow-.
-- Disconnect the connector from the seat forward/back adjustment motor -1-.
-- Free up and disconnect the front seat belt latch connector -2-.
-- Remove the wire clip -arrow- for the wire on the seat pan lower frame.
-- Support the seat pan upper frame with the backrest. so that it does not fall when disconnecting it from the lower frame.
-- Remove the front and rear bolts -arrows- on the left and right side.
There is a risk of damaging the wires.
- Carefully remove the seat pan upper frame.
-- Remove the seat pan upper frame -2- with the backrest from the lower frame -1- and carefully fold forward.
-- On the seat pan lower frame tunnel-side, remove the bolt -1- and unclip the seat position sensor -2-.
-- If installed, remove the wire clip -arrow- for the wire on the seat pan lower frame.
-- Remove the seat pan upper frame with the backrest and place on a clean surface.
-- Unclip the faulty seat forward/back adjustment motor -3- from the bracket and remove.
-- Remove the seat forward/back adjustment motor input shafts -2- and -4-.
-- Destroy and remove the seat forward/back adjustment motor bracket -5-.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the seat rail cross support -1-.
-- Remove the accessible bolt -1- for the seat rail.
-- Install the seat forward/back adjustment motor drive axle -3- with a cordless screwdriver -4- or drill.
-- Insert the input shaft into the drive spindle -arrow- and turn the upper seat rail -2- forward and/or backward arrows, until the bolt for the lower seat rail is accessible.
-- Remove the screws and the seat rail.
-- Repeat the procedure on the opposite side.
-- Replace the seat pan. Refer to FRONT BACKREST, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Reconstruct the front seat belt latch. Refer to FRONT SEAT BELT LATCH, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
