Auxiliary Battery -A1-, VISUAL INSPECTION AND CLASSIFICATION

Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Vehicle Diagnostic Tester
- Diagnostic Box:VAS 5581
- Adapter Cable:VAS 5581/7
Procedure
CAUTION:
Health risk due to toxic dust and fluids.
- Never work on a lithium-ion battery with a short circuit.
CAUTION:
There is a risk of burns due to a hot lithium-ion battery.
It is possible to burn hands.
- Do not touch a hot battery.
- Wear safety gloves.
Check the Auxiliary Battery -A1- for:
- Tears in Auxiliary Battery -A1- housing.
- Deformation of the Auxiliary Battery -A1- housing.
- Changes in color due to temperature effects and housing discoloration.
- Leaking electrolyte.
- Contact damage.
- Presence of legible information and warning labels.
- Corrosion damage.
-- A classification must be given to the Auxiliary Battery -A1- after the visual inspection.
-- Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
- With the Auxiliary Battery -A1- removed, use the Diagnostic Box:VAS 5581 with the Adapter Cable:VAS 5581/7 .
- Connect the black terminal on the Adapter Cable:VAS 5581/7 to the negative terminal on the Auxiliary Battery -A1-.
- The CAN bus terminating resistor on the Diagnostic Box:VAS 5581 is preset to 120 Ohm and must not be changed.
-- Select the Diagnostic mode and start the diagnosis.
-- Select the Test plan tab.
-- Select the Select individual test button and select the following tree structure consecutively:
- Body
- Electrical system
- OBD-Capable Systems
- 0080 - Battery regulation, auxiliary storage 1 (12V Li-Ion)
- 0080 - Battery regulation, auxiliary storage 1 (12V Li-Ion), functions
- 0080 - Classification, A1 - Auxiliary Battery
-- Start the selected program and follow the instructions on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester display.
