Headliner, Lowering

Procedure 

-- Pay attention to the safety precautions when working with pyrotechnic components. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .

-- Remove the A-pillar upper trim panels. Refer to UPPER A-PILLAR TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Detach the B-pillar upper trim panels (refer to B-PILLAR UPPER TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING ) and move to the side with the seat belt webbing.

-- Remove the C-pillar trim panels. Refer to C-PILLAR TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the D-pillar trim panels. Refer to D-PILLAR TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the sun visors. Refer to SUN VISOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the sun visor center support. Refer to SUN VISOR CENTER SUPPORT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- If installed, remove the vanity mirror illumination. Refer to Driver Vanity Mirror Lamp -W20- /Front Passenger Vanity Mirror Lamp -W14-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the roof grab handle. Refer to ROOF GRAB HANDLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Free up in the headliner in the area of the inner door seals.

-- Vehicle with screen separator mounting eye: unclip the headliner -1- with the trim -2- and the bracket -arrow-.

-- Repeat the procedure on the opposite side.

-- Free up the headliner -1- in the rear lid seal area -2-.

-- Use the Pry Lever :80-200  to unclip the headliner at the outer clips from the body -arrow B-.

-- Use the Pry Lever :80-200  to unclip the back of the headliner at the clips in the center of the body -arrow A-.

-- Carefully guide the Pry Lever :80-200  between the headliner and body.

-- Release the rear centering -arrow- in the center with the Pry Lever :80-200  and lower the headliner.

-- Carefully lower the back of the headliner and place on the seat.

-- If equipped, unclip the cover -1- on the side using the clip-release lever from the :VAS 6845  -arrow A- through -arrow C-.

-- Disengage the front cover and remove toward the rear.

Versions without Sliding Sunroof

-- Remove the front roof module. Refer to FRONT INTERIOR LAMP/READING LAMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Lower the headliner and place it on the seats.

Vehicles with sliding sunroof

-- Open the sun shade.

-- To avoid dirtying the headliner, clean the Removal Wedge :T40233  .

-- Push the Removal Wedge :T40233  between the frame -1- for the sliding sunroof and the headliner.

-- Using the Removal Wedge :T40233  , loosen the headliner all the way around the frame for the sliding sunroof -arrows-.

-- Unclip the headliner -3- together with the front roof module -1- from the clamp -2- using the scraper from the :VAS 6845  and carefully lower it.

-- Disconnect the connector and free up the wiring harness.

-- Lower the headliner and place it on the seats.

Installing

Install in the reverse order of removal while noting the following:

-- Align the headliner, press in the centering pins and clips at the back of the headliner until it engages audibly in the body mounting point.

-- Install the center support for the sun visor. Refer to SUN VISOR CENTER SUPPORT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Stretch over the lip of the rear lid and inner door seals.

-- Clip the headliner into the screen separator mounting eyes.

Vehicles with sliding sunroof

-- Clip the sides of the headliner into the sunroof frame first, and then into the front and rear.
