Undamaged Side Window, Removing

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Hand drill
5 mm drill bit

Procedure

-- Remove the D-pillar trim panel. Refer to D-PILLAR TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the head curtain airbag guide. Refer to OVERVIEW - HEAD CURTAIN AIRBAG .

-- Removing the roof trim molding. Refer to ROOF TRIM MOLDING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the door seal in the side window area.

CAUTION:

Risk of injury to the hands and eyes from glass fragments.

Getting cut is possible.

- Wear protective eyewear.

- Wear safety gloves.

-- If equipped, release and disconnect the connectors, and secure to the center of the window with adhesive tape.

-- Drill out the pop rivet heads -arrows- and pierce the rivet shaft.

-- Attach the cord hook -6- from the Window Removal Set:VAS 861 001A in the vehicle interior under the side window -3-.

-- Route the Cutting Cord:VAS 861 001/1A -item 1- all around under the side window and secure on the cord hook -6-.

-- Make sure on the lower edge of the window, that the cutting cord is between the body and the seal; to do this, lift the decorative trim with scraper no. 3 -item 4- from the Scraper Set:VAS 6845 and route the cutting cord with the threading tool -5- from the Window Removal Set:VAS 861 001A

-- Secure the upper side window with adhesive tape -2- to the body.

-- Secure the removal device -3- with the reel device on the inside of the window -2-.

-- Insert the Cutting Cord:VAS 861 001/1A -1- in the reel device.

-- Tension the cutting cord with the reel device.

-- Cut the first section free. This will guide the cutting wire into the integrated idler roller on the reel device.

-- Insert the cutting guard -3- between the wires and the Cutting Cord:VAS 861 001/1A -item 1-.

-- Move the removal device -2- and cut free the area along the D-pillar upward. This will cut through the centering pin.

-- Offset the removal device -2- and cut out the upper area at the D-pillar with the Cutting Cord:VAS 861 001/1A -item 1-.

-- Remove the side window from the side window frame.

-- Remove the separated centering pin from the securing hole.
