INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WITH Instrument Cluster Control Module -J285-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING: Removing

-- Move the steering wheel as far to the rear and down as possible. Use the full steering column adjustment range for this.

-- Switch off the ignition and place the ignition key outside of the vehicle.

-- Remove the instrument cluster trim. Refer to the appropriate Service Information .

-- Remove the bolts -1, 2, and 3-.

TIP:

Depending on the version, the instrument cluster may only be secured by two bolts -2 and 3-.

Instrument Cluster - Low:

-- Position the the Release Tool:T40389  at the clamps -1-.

• The hook must lay horizontal.

-- Release the clamps, for this, turn the release tool counter-clockwise.

-- At the same time, remove the instrument cluster -2- toward the rear.

Instrument Cluster - High:

-- Guide the Release Tool:T40389  at the top into the opening -arrow A- on the instrument cluster until it stops and position it on the clip -1-.

• The hook must lay horizontal.

-- Release the clamps, for this, turn the release tool counter-clockwise -arrow B-.

-- At the same time, remove the instrument cluster -2- toward the rear.

-- Disconnect the connectors -1, 4, and 5-, the antenna wire -3-, and the connector -2- for the fiber-optic cable.

-- Seal the open wiring harness connector -2- of the fiber-optic cable with the Fiber-Optic Repair Set - Connector Protective Caps: VAS 6223/9  -item 1-.

TIP:

The protective cap prevents contamination of or mechanical damage to the front surface of the fiber-optic cable which would impair light transmission.

-- Remove the instrument cluster on the front passenger side between the steering wheel and the instrument panel.
