Front Thorax Airbag Wire, Removing And Installing: Removing
-- Pay attention to the safety precautions when working with pyrotechnic components. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
Risk of airbag deployment.
Risk of injury.
- Check if the airbag indicator lamp turns on or blinks.
- If the airbag indicator lamp turns on or blinks, the DTC memory must be read.
- If >>short circuit to positive<< is a DTC memory entry, disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
- If there is a DTC memory entry, the Guided Fault Finding instructions on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester must always be followed.
- If the airbag indicator lamp does not turn on or blink, or there is no DTC memory entry with >>short circuit to positive<< : switch off the ignition, keep the ignition key outside of the vehicle and wait 10 seconds.
-- Remove the backrest cover. Refer to BACKREST COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the front backrest. Refer to FRONT BACKREST, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
TIP:
Remove the cushion on the backrest in the area of the thorax airbag just until the thorax airbag connector is accessible.
-- Comfort seat: disengage the rubber tabs -2- in the thorax airbag area (side sill side) and on the backrest frame.
-- Normal/sport seat: disengage the cover and cushion on the backrest and free it up. Refer to BACKREST COVER AND CUSHION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Push the cushion on the backrest side sill side in the area of the thorax airbag to the side.
Pyrotechnical components can deploy unintentionally.
Risk of injury.
- Discharge the static electricity: quickly touch the door striker.
-- Release the connector lock -2- with a small flat-head screwdriver in the direction of -arrow-.
-- Disconnect the connector -1- on the thorax airbag igniter.
-- Unclip and free up the thorax airbag wire on the backrest frame.
-- Carefully remove the thorax airbag wire from the backrest frame.
