-- Pay attention to the safety precautions when working with pyrotechnic components. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .

Risk of injury.
- Check if the airbag indicator lamp turns on or blinks.
- If the airbag indicator lamp turns on or blinks, the DTC memory must be read.
- If >>short circuit to positive<< is a DTC memory entry, disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
- If there is a DTC memory entry, the Guided Fault Finding instructions on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester must always be followed.
- If the airbag indicator lamp does not turn on or blink, or there is no DTC memory entry with >>short circuit to positive<< : switch off the ignition, keep the ignition key outside of the vehicle and wait 10 seconds.
-- Lower the headliner. Refer to HEADLINER, LOWERING .
-- Remove the bolt -2- from the A-pillar.
-- Disengage the retaining strap -1-.
-- Unclip the head curtain airbag clips -1- from the body using Clip Pliers:VAS 211 001 -2-.
-- To do this, guide the plier tips into the openings of the clip -1-.
-- Press the catches for the clip -1- for the head curtain airbag together and remove the retainer.
Pyrotechnical components can deploy unintentionally.

- Discharge the static electricity: quickly touch the door striker.
-- Release the connector lock -1- with a small flat-head screwdriver in the direction of -arrow-.
-- Disconnect the connector -2-.
-- Remove the bolt -3- with anti-twist mechanism.
-- Guide the head curtain airbag -4- out of the mount on the body.
Risk of airbag deployment.
There is a risk of injury.
- Store the airbag with the cushion facing upward.
