-- Pay attention to the safety precautions when working with pyrotechnic components. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .

- Check if the airbag indicator lamp turns on or blinks.
- If the airbag indicator lamp turns on or blinks, the DTC memory must be read.
- If >>short circuit to positive<< is a DTC memory entry, disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
- If there is a DTC memory entry, the Guided Fault Finding instructions on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester must always be followed.
- If the airbag indicator lamp does not turn on or blink, or there is no DTC memory entry with >>short circuit to positive<< : switch off the ignition, keep the ignition key outside of the vehicle and wait 10 seconds.

-- Remove the front passenger side instrument panel side cover. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL SIDE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Open the glove compartment lid.
-- Market-specific versions: remove the Chip Card Reader Control Module -J676-. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - NAVIGATION SYSTEM .
-- Equipped on some models: remove the DVD Player -R7-. Refer to DVD/CD CHANGER .
-- Equipped on some models: remove the storage compartment (cover) -1- in the glove compartment using the Wedge:T10383/1 in direction of -arrow A- by carefully releasing the catches -B arrows- one after the other with a small flat-head screwdriver.
-- Remove the bolt -arrow-.
-- Unclip the inner front passenger side cover -1- from the instrument panel cover using the Trim Removal Wedge:3409 in the direction of -arrow-.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.
-- Disengage the glove compartment -1- at the side from the pin -arrow-.
-- Slightly remove the glove compartment -1- carefully.
-- Release and disconnect the connector for the footwell lighting and the glove compartment lamp.

Pyrotechnical components can deploy unintentionally.
Risk of injury.
- Discharge the static electricity: quickly touch the door striker.
-- Press the catch -1- in the direction of -arrow- until the connector disengages.
-- Disconnect the connector -2-.
-- Ignore -3, 4 and 5-.
