Brake Fluid Reservoir, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Remove the plenum chamber cover. Refer to PLENUM CHAMBER COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

CAUTION:

Leaking brake fluid increases the risk of injury.

Risk of skin irritation and injury.

- Wear safety gloves.

-- To prevent brake fluid from escaping, place enough lint-free cloths in the area under the brake fluid reservoir.

-- Open the brake fluid reservoir.

CAUTION:

Risk of accident due to the brakes malfunctioning.

- Brake fluid must never come into contact with fluids containing mineral oils (oil, gasoline, cleaning solutions).

- Wear safety gloves that are free of oil and grease.

-- Extract as much brake fluid -2- as possible in the brake fluid with the suction hose Bleeding Equipment: VAS6860 or Brake Charger/Bleeder Unit: VAS5234 (example illustration).

CAUTION:

There is a risk of contamination and paint damage from leaking brake fluid.

- Rinse off any leaking brake fluid immediately using plenty of water.

-- Disconnect the connector -2- for the Brake Fluid Level Warning Switch -F34-.

-- Remove the locking pin -arrow- on the side of the brake fluid reservoir and from the brake master cylinder.

-- Remove the brake fluid reservoir -1- from the plugs. (Shown on a vehicle without a high-voltage system).

-- Immediately seal off open lines and connections with plugs.
