Front Seat, Removing With Faulty Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor

To complete the procedure, a second technician is required to be at the following position. Refer to FRONT SEAT, REMOVING WITH FAULTY SEAT FORWARD/BACK ADJUSTMENT MOTOR => Remove the front seat from the vehicle with a second technician. .

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Trim Removal Wedge:3409

TIP:

To lift out the front seat, the Seat Assembly Device:VAS 281 003 can be used. Pay attention to the accompanying instruction manual.

Driver/Front Passenger Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor Driver Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor -V28- /Front Passenger Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor -V31-, Checking:

-- Move the front seat into its highest position.

To avoid unnecessary repair costs, check electrical and electronic components and wires before removing the front seat any more.

-- Perform the following tests:

Check the fuse. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.
Check the voltage at the connector station and perform Fault Finding if necessary. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.
Check the voltage on the seat forward/back adjustment motor. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.
Check the voltage on the seat adjustment control head, and perform Fault Finding if necessary. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.

-- Replace the fuse if faulty. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.

-- If there is no voltage, repair or replace the wire. Refer to the appropriate Wiring Diagram.

-- If the control head is faulty: replace the Driver Seat Adjustment Control Head Driver Seat Adjustment Control Head -E470- / Front Passenger Seat Adjustment Control Head Front Passenger Seat Adjustment Control Head -E471-. Refer to DRIVER/FRONT PASSENGER SEAT ADJUSTMENT CONTROL HEAD -E470- / -E471-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- If installed and the control module is faulty, replace the Memory Seat/Steering Column Adjustment Control Module Memory Seat/Steering Column Adjustment Control Module -J136- / Front Passenger Memory Seat Control Module Front Passenger Memory Seat Control Module -J521-. Refer to SEAT FUNCTIONS CONTROL MODULE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- If the seat forward/back adjustment motor is faulty, replace the seat pan. Refer to SEAT PAN, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING .

Removing with faulty Driver and Front Passenger Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor Driver Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor -V28- /Front Passenger Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor -V31- :

-- Equipped on some models: remove the multimedia system display unit. Refer to INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM .

-- If necessary, remove the fire extinguisher mount. Refer to FIRE EXTINGUISHER BRACKET, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- If necessary, remove the control module for the seat functions. Refer to SEAT FUNCTIONS CONTROL MODULE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- If necessary, remove the pneumatic system compressor. Refer to PNEUMATIC SYSTEM COMPRESSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

CAUTION:

Risk of airbag deployment.

Risk of injury.

- Check if the airbag indicator lamp turns on or blinks.

- If the airbag indicator lamp turns on or blinks, the DTC memory must be read.

- If >>short circuit to positive<< is a DTC memory entry, disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

- If there is a DTC memory entry, the Guided Fault Finding instructions on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester must always be followed.

- If the airbag indicator lamp does not turn on or blink, or there is no DTC memory entry with >>short circuit to positive<< : switch off the ignition, keep the ignition key outside of the vehicle and wait 10 seconds.

CAUTION:

Pyrotechnical components can deploy unintentionally.

Risk of injury.

- Discharge the static electricity: quickly touch the door striker.

-- Release and disconnect the connectors on the connector station in the floor.

-- Remove the seat rail cover on the side sill side. Refer to UPPER CENTER SEAT RAIL COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Unclip the rear bracket -2- for the wire routing on the seat pan with a flat-head screwdriver.

-- Release and disconnect the connector -1- on the seat forward/back adjustment motor.

-- Free up the wire -arrow-.

-- Remove the bolts -1 and 2-.

-- Remove the faulty seat forward/back adjustment motor -3- with bracket.

-- Remove the accessible bolts for the seat rails.

-- Push the front seat forward and back to remove the accessible bolts for the seat rails.

-- To protect the sill panel, apply the Universal Vehicle Protector:VAS 871001 .

-- Remove the front seat from the vehicle with a second technician.

-- Replace the seat pan. Refer to SEAT PAN, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING .

-- Install the front seat. Refer to Installing .
