- The global warming potential of R134a (Global Warming Potential = GWP) is approximately 1400 (the GWP of carbon dioxide = 1). To reduce the influence of the greenhouse effect of refrigerant R134a, the European commission has made it mandatory that no vehicles from 01/01/2017 with refrigerant in the vehicle A/C system with a GWP greater than 150 may be introduced to the market. A/C systems in vehicles that were introduced to the market up to 12/31/2016 can be filled and driven with refrigerant R134a until further notice.
