Battery, 48 V -A6-, VISUALLY INSPECTING AND CLASSIFYING

Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Vehicle Diagnostic Tester
- Diagnostic Box: VAS 5581 if needed
- Diagnostic Cable:VAS 5581/14 if necessary
- Adapter Cable:VAS 5581/1A-2 if necessary, not required when using Diagnostic Box:VAS 5581A
Procedure
CAUTION:
Health risk due to toxic dust and fluids.
- Never work on a lithium-ion battery with a short circuit.
CAUTION:
There is a risk of burns due to a hot lithium-ion battery.
It is possible to burn hands.
- Do not touch a hot battery.
- Wear safety gloves.
The Battery, 48 V -A6- must be checked for:
- Cracks in the housing for the Battery, 48 V -A6-.
- Deformities in the housing for the Battery, 48 V -A6-.
- Changes in color due to temperature effects and housing discoloration.
- Leaking electrolyte.
- Contact damage.
- Presence of legible information and warning labels.
- Corrosion damage.
-- After the visual inspection, the Battery, 48 V -A6- must be classified.
-- Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
- With the Battery, 48 V -A6- removed, use the Diagnostic Box:VAS 5581 with the Diagnostic Cable:VAS 5581/14 and the Adapter Cable:VAS 5581/1A-2 .
- Connect the black terminal from the Diagnostic Cable:VAS 5581/14 and Adapter Cable:VAS 5581/1A-2 on the negative terminal of the Battery, 48 V -A6-.
- The CAN bus terminating resistor on the Diagnostic Box:VAS 5581 is preset to 120 Ohm and must not be changed.
-- Select and start the Diagnostic operating mode.
-- Select the Special functions tab and then the following items in the tree structure one after the other:
- 48V - Vehicle electrical system
- 0021 - Battery 48V - Conditional Assessment
-- Start the selected program and follow the instructions on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester display.
