Input Shaft Seal, Replacing, 0DG: Installing

Install in reverse order of removal.

-- Fill the space between the sealing/dust lip halfway with Sealing Grease:G 052 128 A1  .

-- Coat outer edge of the seal with gear oil.

-- Push the new shaft seal on the pinion.

Prepare the Seal Installer - Shaft Seal:T10432  as follows:

-- Remove the thrust washer -1- from the Seal Installer - Rear Crankshaft:T10134  and place it in the Seal Installer - Shaft Seal:T10432  .

CAUTION:

Incorrect installation dimension of the shaft seal of assembly without the thrust washer -1-.

Leaking shaft seal

- So that the shaft seal is installed at the correct dimension, a thrust washer with the dimension -x- (2.5 mm) must be inserted.

-- Install the shaft seal all the way. Be careful not to bend it.

-- Coat the new O-ring -1- with gear oil and install on the pinion.

-- Warm the flange/driveshaft -B- with an Inductive Heater:VAS 6414  or a Heating Plate to 120 °C (248 °F).

CAUTION:

Hot components.

Burning of hands is possible.

- Wear safety gloves.

- If using a Heating Plate the temperature must be observed using a Digital Thermometer:VAS 6519  .

-- Position the flange/driveshaft -B- on the pinion -A- so that the mark -arrow- is in a straight line.

-- Install the flange/driveshaft using the Seal Installer - Hollow Shaft:T10380  until it stops.

-- Position the circlip -arrow-.

-- Fill the gear oil level in the rear final drive and check the level. Refer to GEAR OIL LEVEL, CHECKING, 0DG .

-- Attach the driveshaft to the rear final drive. Refer to Figure.

-- Install the rear section of the exhaust system. Refer to OVERVIEW - MUFFLER - 3.0L , OVERVIEW - MUFFLER - Servicing 3.0L .
