Headliner, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Pay attention to the safety precautions when working with pyrotechnic components. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHEN WORKING WITH PYROTECHNIC COMPONENTS .

-- Remove the A-pillar upper trim panels. Refer to A-PILLAR UPPER TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the upper B-pillar trim panels. Refer to B-PILLAR UPPER TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the D-pillar trim panels. Refer to D-PILLAR TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the front roof module. Refer to FRONT INTERIOR LAMP/READING LAMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the upper interior rearview mirror cover. Refer to INTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the Driver and Front Passenger Vanity Mirror Lamp Driver Vanity Mirror Lamp -W20- /Front Passenger Vanity Mirror Lamp -W14-. Refer to DRIVER VANITY MIRROR LAMP -W20- /FRONT PASSENGER VANITY MIRROR LAMP -W14-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the rear interior lamp/reading lamp. Refer to REAR INTERIOR LAMP/READING LAMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Unclip the sun visor mount expanding caps -1- in the direction of -arrow- by sliding the Angled Screwdriver:VAS 6416  just approximately 1 mm under the cap.

TIP:

If the long reach special wrench is inserted farther, it will be located under the sun visor. It is then not possible to pry out the expanding cap.

The sun visors are removed before removing the headliner.

-- Remove the sun visor center support. Refer to SUN VISOR CENTER SUPPORT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the roof grab handle. Refer to ROOF GRAB HANDLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Versions with Panoramic Roof:

-- Open the sun shade.

-- To avoid getting dirt on the headliner, clean the Removal Wedge:T40233  .

-- Push the Removal Wedge:T40233  between the frame -1- for the panorama roof and the headliner.

-- Loosen the headliner using the Removal Wedge:T40233  from the panorama roof frame all the way around -arrows-, as shown.

Continuation for All Vehicles

-- Move the front seats all the way forward and in the lowest position.

-- Tilt the backrest all the way forward.

-- Fold the rear seat backrests forward.

-- Free up the headliner in the area near the door seals on the driver side.

-- Unclip the headliner -1- with trim -2- and trim bracket at the screen separator mounting eye in the direction of -arrow-.

-- Repeat the procedure on the opposite side.

-- Remove the rear lid seal -2-. Refer to REAR LID SEAL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Using the Pry Level:80-200  (or another suitable tool), unclip the rear headliner at the clips in the center (quantity: 2) from the body in the direction of -arrow A-.

-- Unclip the side headliner from the body at the clips in direction of -B arrows-.

-- Unclip the front headliner together with the sun visors.

-- Remove the sun visors. Refer to SUN VISOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Lower the headliner -1- on the left side of the vehicle.

-- Move out the headliner by turning correspondingly and lower it carefully through the lid opening.

-- To do so carefully bent the headliner on the edges -arrows- lightly and guide it past the constrictions.
