ATF, Draining And Filling

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

Draining

NOTE:

To drain the ATF the transmission must be at its operating temperature. Do not start the engine when there is either very little or no ATF in the transmission.

Follow all applicable disposal regulations.

-- Remove the center or rear noise insulation. Refer to NOISE INSULATION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Place the :SMN372500  under the transmission.

WARNING:

Danger of eye injury.

  • Wear protective eyewear.

-- Open the ATF drain plug -arrow A- and drain the ATF.

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging the transmission.

  • Do not start the engine when there is no ATF in the transmission.

-- Tighten the drain plug -arrow A- all the way.

ATF, Filling

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging the transmission.

  • Only use the ATF available as a replacement part for the automatic transmission 0D5.
  • Using other fluids can cause malfunctions or transmission failure.
  • Refer to the Parts Information for the allocation.
  • The ATF filler adapter must be clean. Do not mix the ATF with any other ATF types.

-- Use the :VAS6262A  to secure the fluid container as high up on the vehicle as possible. Refer to the Parts Information for the ATF specification.

-- Remove the plug for the ATF check and fill hole -arrow B-.

-- Install the :VAS6262/5  into the ATF check and fill hole -arrow-.

-- Fill with ATF using the adapter until the ATF starts to leak out of the check and fill hole.

-- Start the engine in "P" position.

-- Fill with ATF again using the adapter until the ATF starts to leak out of the check and fill hole.

-- Tighten the old plug for the ATF check and fill hole hand-tight.

-- Check the ATF level and correct if necessary. Refer to ATF LEVEL, CHECKING .

NOTE:

Observe all notes and test requirements for "Checking ATF level and correcting".
