Brake Caliper, Removing And Installing: Removing
-- Release the parking brake.
-- Switch off the ignition.
- Do not disconnect the connectors from the parking brake motors.
-- Remove the rear wheel. Refer to WHEELS AND TIRES .
-- Carefully remove the brake pad wear indicator contact -5- using pliers. Pay attention to the clip -4- while doing so.
- If the clips go missing, the brake pad wear indicator wire must be replaced.
-- Pushing the inner brake pad slightly into the brake caliper with suitable pliers -1- makes it easier to remove the brake caliper from the brake rotor. To prevent damage to the paint coat on the brake caliper, place a piece of rubber -2- between the pliers and brake caliper.
-- Do not damage the brake pad wear indicator contact -3-.
-- Remove the brake carrier bolts -arrows-.
-- Remove the brake caliper with brake carrier and installed brake pads from the brake rotor.
- If the brake rotor is so worn that the brake caliper cannot be removed, then the parking brake must be driven back. Refer to Removing .
There is a risk of damaging the brake hose due to the weight of the brake caliper.
- Never let the brake caliper hang on the brake hose.
-- Hang the brake caliper using a suitable wire.
There is a risk of damaging the brake caliper pistons if handled incorrectly.
- Never operate the brakes when the brake caliper is removed.
